One-by-One Tutoring

Kindergarten-5th grade

Thursdays, 6:30-8:00 p.m.

One-by-One exists to provide individual, academic tutoring to at-risk inner-city children. Kids in elementary school (K-5) are paired with a tutor for the school year. For the first hour each week they focus on math, reading, and writing, using LHM’s many educational tools. Then the whole group gathers for songs, a Bible lesson, and prayer. One of the anchors of the program is the relationship established between tutor and student. Those involved as tutors are encouraged to see themselves as friend first and teacher second. They also build relationships with students' families, often through the fun events planned throughout the year.

The program is designed to help fight illiteracy and thereby reduce poverty. It also seeks to help build positive moral character in future leaders through the positive relationships and modeling of the tutor/mentors. The ultimate goal is to tutor and mentor in the spirit of Christ.

If you would like to enroll your child in the tutoring program, please fill out a registration form.
(Note: continuing students have priority and new enrolling students are on a first come basis first served basis)
